What we ate: Small bites, big flavours – crispy prawn and tapioca betel leaf; spanner crab, galangal, roasted chilli and lime betel leaf; eggplant and tofu lettuce delight; rice paper rolls with Crystal Bay prawns, pork and Hoisin sauce; Hervey Bay scallop, pearl tapioca and Yarra Valley salmon caviar. Then we moved onto the big stuff – the fish of day (salmon with chamula crust) and a specially made vegetarian version of the sizzling prawn dish, filled with veggies, XO sauce, king brown mushrooms, chilli and sweet peppers.
What we drank: Perfectly matched Cabernet Sauvignon by the glass. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we neglected to ask what it was!

Best bits: Coda’s service hits the mark in a way that many other restaurants can only dream of. They were friendly, extremely attentive, knowledgeable and accommodating.
Worse bits: Unluckily for us, our bub had a fit of tiredness after a few big nights out, so poor Ana had to spend most of the small bites hidden in the staff coat room just behind where we were sitting. Though she was happy because the spring rolls were easy to eat in such a small space. The noise was also quite overbearing at times. A busy, lively vibe can be fun, but not when people at the table next to us were shouting at each other.
